CASE STUDY:
A customer brought me their Volkswagen asking if I had knowledge with working on them. I notified them that Volkswagen owns Audi and that they use the same drive-trains and same vehicle electrical platforms. I was able to diagnose their car correctly and confirm that yes, just as the other technician had said, their timing chain was indeed stretched and in need of replacement. However, I also let them know that they would be better off replacing the engine due to the fact the vehicle is excessively burning oil. Since it already had the updated PCV system, the oil was burning internally due to oil control rings failure. If a technician didn't know the issues that develop with this particular engine, the customer would have put timing chains in their engine and continually had problems due to the defective oil control rings. We saved them many headaches down the road.
